The way to Crochet a Man's Hat

Nothing beats a homemade gift. Consider crocheting a beautiful hat for that special man in your life. Choose bold colors that are the recipient's favorites. Block patterns and solid patterns in colors such as a masculine navy blue, deep green or burgundy make appropriate color choices. With a little crocheting know-how, you'll be able to complete this satisfying project.Measure the recipients' head so you can choose the correct hat pattern size. Measure from the top of the crown of his head down to his eyebrows. If you cannot do this, estimate his head size. While measuring his head, ask about his favorite colors to help you select yarn colors for the hat.

2

Start a slip knot at one end of the yarn and put it on the hook. Cut the tail one inch from the hook.

3

Crochet five stitches. To make a stitch, loop yarn all the way around the hook and pull it over itself and over the head of the hook.

4

Put the hook through the hole at the bottom of the row of stitches through the first stitch.

5

Stitch the row together into a circle. Create a stitch, as in Step 4, and pull the whole row through the loop and off the hook. This is the top of the hat.

6

Crochet in doubles, following the hat pattern. A good rule of thumb is to crochet in doubles until the crown of the hat has reached the size of your outstretched hand. This creates the top portion of the hat, which is made before the sides of the hat.

7

Crochet in singles to make the side portions of the hat, stopping when indicated on your hat pattern or when the hat reaches the length you want according to measurements you took.
